Give yourself the gift of thankfulness.
It seems obvious given that we’ve just finished a season of Thanksgiving, but it’s easy to forget that attitude of gratitude in the bustle and busy of Christmas.
Give yourself the gift of gratitude.
Take time to notice the little joys in your life – the snowflakes that sparkle on your child’s eyelashes, the beauty of the last red leaf of autumn in a gray landscape, the smell of coffee. Your thankfulness is the perfect antidote to the season epidemic of “gimme gimme.”
Give yourself the gift of hope.
Hope. A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. An archaic definition includes the idea of trust.
Anticipate the arrival of Christmas Day with joyful expectation, not the weariness that comes from a too long list and a too small bank account.
Give yourself permission to experience the magic of Christmas through your child’s eyes.
Give yourself purpose.
You aren’t “just.”
The phrase “just a mom” or “just a wife” or “just a retail clerk” or “just a rocket scientist” has got to go. Whatever phrase you use – the one that starts with “just” – has just got to go.
You are MORE.
So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (Matthew 10:31)
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37)
You have a unique set of gifts and abilities. You have a unique story. You have a unique purpose from God.
Never forget.
You aren’t “just” because you are more.

In this season of busy where we moms tend to give everything we have to others, we can’t forget to give ourselves a few gifts. Don’t save these until Christmas morning. Open them up anew each day.
